Patient Generated Care

Just as Global Care (GC) promotes a different paradigm of healthcare, so does it require a different system of patient management. GC is not only patient-centered care.... it is patient-generated care. This means that rather than viewing an acute condition as a 'disease' to get over; GC considers each challenge a teaching opportunity. And instead of  viewing your provider as the authority who tells you what to do... your physician becomes a partner in working with you to manage your circumstances and a teacher to show you how you can gradually assume management of most of your care yourself given effective tools, support, and a back up plan for safety.

Global Care creates a very different set of expectations for a patient. Rather than waiting for an illness to fully develop with clear symptoms; GC clients learn to address illness BEFORE it progresses. GC clients also learn to observe the unfolding of symptoms, reoccurring patterns of illness, and the underlying causes of disease. This highly individualized approach to illness puts the responsibility of treatment on the shoulders of the patient (or parents) to recognize the opportunity illness creates as a teaching moment. Global care clients have 24 hour access to support and education for exactly this reason. Walking through an illness with a physician trained in Naturopathic Medicine is an invaluable glimpse into a step by step process of interpreting symptoms, noting the body's response to various modalities, and responding to minute changes by altering treatment based on the condition of the body. This is essentially a practical mentorship providing a great wealth of education to patients (or their parents). GC makes this type of care possible by providing unlimited access to care at no additional charge.

Home Pharmacy and Global Care

One of the basic tools that we wish to develop for our Global Care Clients is how to stock, maintain, and use a successful home pharmacy. The value of this tool cannot be overestimated. Many times crises or emergencies hit when you least expect them.... and the last thing you want to do at that time of stress is scramble for what you need.

Learning to use basic healing tools with the support of a physician walking you through a crisis is a very effective teaching tool. The most effective home pharmacies build slowly over time, a few versatile and multi use products or modalities at a time. Mastery of these tools is coupled with an understanding of how an injury or illness progresses; and how it is impacted by being supported or confronted at various stages.

In order to get the most out of your time with us, consider Global Care a class on healing. I hope the following tips will help:

1. take advantage of being able to text as needed and text often with updates, questions, observations.
2. set up a home pharmacy and master basic skills by attending our educational classes and texting with minor ailments or early in the course of an illness.
3. study Naturopathic Principles and learn to apply them.
4. practice, practice, practice.

Building a Home Pharmacy

How do you really know how to stock your home pharmacy? What do you need? Well, without trying - you don't. It would be a very expensive prospect to just guess and buy a huge number of supplements to try. Running out overtime you get sick defeats the purpose of treating early and being prepared. We have a few ways to help you compile a useful and cost effective Home Pharmacy.

1. Attend view and take advantage of all our educational opportunities. Putting together a useful home pharmacy requires you see patterns of health and disease in your own body as well as recognizing a defined philosophical approach. This will help you customize your pharmacy to make it truly useful.

2. Seek out products that have a broad action and address a 'process' rather than a specific condition. The approach of having an array of natural medicines for specific conditions means you are not using customized supplements and are instead practicing 'cookbook' medicine.

3. Seek to really study various modalities, keep notes ( Health Notebook), record observations, continue to expand your knowledge by asking questions and thinking critically.

Healthy by Nature creates customized 'kits' for expanding your home pharmacy. These are cost effective ways to purchase smaller quantities of supplements that are hand picked for you as part of your medical care and education. With a variety of useful products on hand, you are prepared to treat health issues yourself at home with just a phone consult. Healthcare where you need it and when you need it.

We generally offer at least two kits annually to all GC members. At the onset of Cold and Flu Season we have our 'stock up Sale. At this time we like to introduce new or helpful products to you through the Winter Months. In the Spring we offer another Custom Kit that focuses on Homeopathics and First Aid items that are useful during the warmer months.

Kits are completely customized which means no two are the same and all items are hand picked for you. These items are then discussed at appointments or when recommended for use during physician contact. Having access to high quality supplements and accessible medical advice creates an extremely cost effective and highly effective form of Healthcare.

The Custom Kit: Jumpstart your Home Pharmacy

The 2015 Custom Kit helps you expand your Home Pharmacy quickly. We buy a large number of supplements and divide up the bottles allowing you to purchase various products in smaller quantity. The 2005 Winter Kits are a great option for new and established clients. They also make great travel kits since they are less bulky and already packaged in smaller containers.

We have 3 options this year for our kits, small (cost $75 containing at least 5 items), medium (cost $100 containing at least 10 items) and large (cost $120 containing at least 15 items). You may specify any preferences ( i.e. need something for occasional insomnia, have frequent sinus infections and want first response product) but even if you don't, the kit will contain some basic essentials everyone should have on hand.

Having a Home Pharmacy is a critical part of Global Care because it allows you to treat at the onset of a health challenge ( prevention), manage health issues at home with good advice and high quality products, and learn how to manage your own care with gradually less dependance on medical professionals. Having easy access to your doctor and necessary supplies on hand is why Global Care is such an effective path to exceptional health.
